What is Bitfinex?
Bitfinex is a cryptocurrency exchange that provides its traders with extra advanced services such as margin trading and funding. Bitfinex was registered in the British Virgin Islands as a company operated and owned by iFinex Inc with its HQ based in Hong Kong.

Bitfinex was founded in December 2012 by Giancarlo Devasini and Raphael Nicolle as a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) bitcoin exchange and margin lending platform. It expanded its services for traders and added more support for cryptocurrencies later on. Giancarlo Devasini went on to become Bitfinex’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the team together with its CEO, JL van der Velde and Chief Technology Officer (CFO), Paolo Ardoino. Raphael Nicolle reportedly moved on to work on other stuff and informed that he had left Bitfinex “in the capable hands of a good team of investors and experts”.

Traders can use Bitfinex as an exchange to deposit, withdraw and trade cryptocurrencies with central limit order books.
Qualified users will be able to receive financial help from Bitfinex’s margin funding and peer-to-peer (P2P) financing system and trade with up to 3.3x leverage. Traders on Bitfinex can enter funding order manually to receive desired amount, rate and duration of financing. Traders can initiate a financed trading position to have Bitfinex link them automatically with P2P financing at current prevailing rate.
Bitfinex provides users the option to earn interest on their digital assets with the P2P financing market by lending their funds to other traders who are interested to do leveraged trading.
